INTL Day of Pink & Nuit Blanche Winnipeg Present

The Longest Drag Show

On September 28, 2024 from 6pm-midnight at VA Cafe (171 McDermot Av, Winnipeg) join us interactive art exhibition as part of Nuit Blanche Winnipeg.

We are making history by breaking the record for: Canada’s LONGEST CONTINUOUS DRAG SHOW.

Speaking to Nuit Blanche’s theme, Illuminate the Night, we want to:

  • Shed Light on the Art of Drag. Drag is a real longstanding art form that is just as old as wall painting in Ancient Egypt. The performance seeks to demystify and share the magic and beauty that is drag. In an era where 2SLGBTQIA+ rights are under attack in some provinces, it is important to recognize that Manitobans voted against divisive politics and stood with 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. Manitoba has the largest group of elected 2SLGBTQIA+ politicians anywhere in the world, and that speaks about our culture, community and identify as a city and province.

  • Manitoba is Leader in Drag Performance. Our community has a long standing history of drag. From the Imperial Court of Winnipeg and All of Manitoba, to Two-Spirit Drag Performers who have been pioneering the art, and so many more…we have been here and we are innovating the art form. While Manitoba gets overlooked (in many domains), we need to celebrate that Manitoba is a leader.

  • We want to shine light in the darkness. As the days get shorter (during Nuit Blanche) we want to show that even in the dark, there is light, there is hope, and there is love. These are things we find in community, in art and in ourselves. We want to show off our community’s (queer, trans, Winnipeg, Manitoba…) JOY! And how we as Winnipeggers and Manitobans are resilient in the dark..

The performance is designed to be accessible and friendly to all ages and families. This performance is performed by Aria Zero, Ruby Chopstix, and Waaseyaa Haze. This live performance art will be ongoing through the whole night.

We graciously acknowledge the financial support of Nuit Blanche Winnipeg and community donors. Please remember to tag @intldayofpink #nbwpg2024

We acknowledge this project is taking place on Treaty 1 Territory and that Manitoba is located on the Treaty Territories and ancestral lands of the Anishinaabeg, Anishininewuk, Dakota Oyate, Denesuline and Nehethowuk Nations. We acknowledge Manitoba is located on the Homeland of the Red River Métis. Likewise, we acknowledge northern Manitoba includes lands that were and are the ancestral lands of the Inuit. We respect the spirit and intent of Treaties and Treaty Making and remain committed to working in partnership with Two-Spirit, First Nations, Inuit and Métis people in the spirit of truth, reconciliation, and collaboration.
